Who We Are?

Space of Hope Foundation for Human Rights (SOHF) is an independent, non‑governmental, non‑profit organization established in Ninawa, Iraq, by a group of human rights advocates, community leaders, and social development practitioners. The organization was founded on the belief that every individual—regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status—deserves safety, dignity, opportunity, and equal access to rights.

SOHF positions itself as a community‑rooted yet forward‑looking civil society organization, working at the intersection of human rights, social protection, empowerment, and community resilience. Our foundational purpose is to promote a culture of human dignity and strengthen the social fabric in areas affected by displacement, conflict, and systemic marginalization.

We operate with the conviction that meaningful and sustainable change begins with people. Therefore, we place communities at the center of all our interventions by ensuring that our programs are participatory, inclusive, evidence‑driven, and aligned with local priorities.

As a legally registered NGO in Iraq, our work is guided by national regulations and global human rights frameworks, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We strive to serve as a bridge between communities, local authorities, national institutions, and international partners—ensuring collaborative, coordinated, and transparent humanitarian and development responses.

Our team is composed of qualified professionals with experience in human rights, law, protection, psychosocial support, community engagement, youth empowerment, and program management. We also rely on a strong network of volunteers and field facilitators trained to deliver high‑quality, context‑sensitive services.

SOHF’s governance structure—including the Founding Body, Administrative Board, and specialized committees—ensures clear accountability, transparency, and effective leadership across all organizational functions. This allows us to maintain reliable internal systems for program delivery, financial management, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

As an organization emerging from within the community it serves, SOHF understands the realities and challenges faced by vulnerable groups in Ninawa. We bring together local knowledge, technical expertise, and global humanitarian principles to design and implement programs that are responsive, sustainable, and impactful.

In short, we are a mission‑driven civil society actor committed to empowering individuals, protecting rights, strengthening community systems, and contributing to lasting social change in Iraq.
