Ali, a young community member from Al-Qahtaniyah, participated in the Youth Participation for Peaceful Coexistence and Social Cohesion initiative implemented by Space of Hope Foundation for Human Rights (SOHF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before joining the project, Ali was interested in serving his community but lacked the confidence, practical experience, and facilitation skills needed to actively participate in community discussions or engage with local authorities. Like many young people, he wanted to contribute to addressing local challenges but was unsure how to effectively communicate community concerns or take part in decision-making processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through the project’s capacity-building activities, Ali participated in a comprehensive training program focused on peacebuilding, social cohesion, dialogue facilitation, advocacy, and community engagement. The training provided practical tools and knowledge that strengthened his communication skills, increased his self-confidence, and enhanced his understanding of constructive dialogue and community participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result of the training, Ali developed the skills necessary to facilitate discussions, engage with diverse community members, and contribute to local peacebuilding efforts. Shortly after completing the training, he successfully co-facilitated a community dialogue session alongside the SOHF team, demonstrating his ability to apply newly acquired knowledge in a practical setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The experience encouraged Ali to take a more active role within his community. He became involved in awareness-raising and advocacy activities aimed at strengthening communication between citizens and local authorities, promoting peaceful coexistence, and supporting community participation in addressing local challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through dialogue and advocacy efforts, Ali contributed to discussions around issues affecting local communities, including access to public services, community development needs, and citizen engagement. His journey reflects how targeted capacity-building initiatives can transform motivated community members into active local leaders and advocates for positive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Ali continues to support community dialogue initiatives and advocacy efforts that seek to strengthen cooperation between citizens and local authorities. He remains committed to promoting peaceful coexistence, community participation, and constructive solutions to local challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Before participating in the project, I was not able to actively participate in community discussions or facilitate dialogue sessions. Through the training provided by Space of Hope Foundation, I developed my skills and gained the confidence needed to engage with others and support community initiatives. After completing the training, I was able to facilitate a dialogue session and participate in advocacy activities. Access to quality learning environments remains a challenge for many schools and communities in Ninewa Governorate. Educational spaces often lack the resources and infrastructure necessary to provide students with a welcoming environment that encourages learning, reading, and personal development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the Community Pathways Towards Stability and Effective Service Response initiative, Space of Hope Foundation for Human Rights (SOHF) identified the need to improve the learning environment at Zahret Al-Nisan School Library in Al-Qahtaniyah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The library required significant improvements to become a functional and accessible educational space for students and community members. Through the project, SOHF supported the rehabilitation and enhancement of the library by providing five new library shelves and carrying out additional improvements beyond the original project scope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These efforts transformed the library into a cleaner, safer, and more organized space capable of supporting educational and community activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative demonstrates how relatively small community investments can generate meaningful and lasting impact.
